Still Life

First of all, if this is improper in this forum , please let me know.  Since it was set up and then manipulated in the computer, I thought this was the best place for it.

This is a still life utilizing one of my Mom's roseville vases.  I plan to do a series of these utilizing the various vases she gave me.  I arranged the flowers and placed it on a lace table cloth.  The photo was taken with window light (to the left), skylight above and two reflectors to the right and center right.

D 800, 60 mm macro lens at f18, 1/8 second, ISO 400, tripod, live view and cable release.

Comments and suggestions always welcome.  This is a new endeavor for me.

Regards to all

Kathy Snead

Additional comment;  Have moved this over to floral to see what that group thinks of its proper home; floral or photo art

This is a very attractive image.  I like it a lot.  The colors work well, the flowers look to be well arranged, there's good detail in the flowers, and I like the hint of floral in the background.  Is the background wallpaper? or something you created in PS?  You say you manipulated this in the computer, but to me it looks pretty natural.  You could probably post this in the Floral gallery where it would likely have more views and comments.  Look forward to more in your series.

Hi Allen

Thank you for the kind comments!

The background is a lace tablecloth . The tablecloth is also under the vase. I did put a slight texture selectively on the lace to tone down its tactile prominence. That was the only "manipulation".  I just wasn't sure this belonged over in floral due to that and also due to the vase.

Hi Kathy.  Still lifes are fairly common in Flora and I don't see much difference between the minor manipulation you did and using an artificial background, which is also common.  Avery nice arrangement and the image portrays it well.  Excellent lighting.

Beautiful image, Kathy. Expertly and artistically arranged, set-up, photographed, and processed. My only suggestion if to crop some off the bottom. but this a very minor suggestion on a very fine image. devil

I think the image definately belongs in flora. Under the flora posting guidlines, staged, set up, or studio flora images just need to be disclosed as such (a rule that is not always followed), as you did here (even though the rule probably need not apply to floral images that are obviously staged).

Kathy, as Co-moderator, I will tell you that Still Life is acceptable and welcome in the Flora Gallery. This is not only quite lovely and dainty, it is well thought out and appropriately displayed. I have done several still lidevilfes, but none as good as this is. Kudos!

Kathy: Glad you posted this here and please continue to do so with future still lifes. This is really well crafted from concept to capture to presentation. I do think a small crop from the bottom would work a bit better for me but most excellent as is.>=))>

Thanks again everyone. Bill, I agree with you on the crop. I had the final cropped that way for an old frame that I repurposed. Attaching an iPhone shot of that.

Haven't had a ton of time to be on here. So much going on this time of year. The roses are the best I have ever observed in Colorado.

Regards to all
