There's a meal somewhere

My first leopard sighting ever. I had spent 30 days in Kruger park the year before and not seen a leopard once. That's very unlucky. The next year I saw this young male hunting on the first day of my visit near Satara camp. I was supposed to arrive late in the day to the park but I woke up at midnight in Johannesburg and decided to drive at night arriving right when the park opens at sunrise. And then this! The impala hunt at midway (which is rather unusual) was unsuccessful.

Beautiful shot, in my opinion, Hisham.  I like the contrast of light, as I think it works in this image quite well.  Looks like not being able to sleep paid off, this time!  Nice shot.

I love the mood of this dark shot!  The darkness hides the leopard and makes it more foreboding but there is still an impressive amount of detail in all those shadows.  The bright highlights make it more dramatic and you managed to control the brightness very well.  A different, but excellent capture, Hisham!

This looks great on a backlit monitor screen, but I suspect if you print this, it will lose some detail.  I think a very slight opening of the shadows will provide a very pleasing wall print.  Congrats on the long-sought encounter!

Hi Hisham,

Like most of the previous commenters, I very much like the dark tones and contrast in this shot. In my view so many shots we see (posted here and elsewhere online) are over-exposed, either because the camera's light meter "got it wrong" and the shooter didn't compensate appropriately, or when the photographer "opens up" the shadows in post-processing.

Congratulations on the encounter, nicely done - and thanks for sharing!

Cheers...
