Syrphid on Yellow
by Roger Kirchen
Back again after a lengthy absence from NPN. Hope I'm back for longer this time. Most images from the archives for now.
This Hoverfly (Syrphidae) mimics a wasp for its own protection. It is innocuous though and does not sting. I like the same pattern of colors in the syrphid and in the flower.
Canon 7D, Sigma 150 mm macro 2.8 + 1.4 TC, f/14, ISO 400, 0 EV, 1/400 sec, monopod, natural light, LR, PS-CC and NIK suite.
All comments are much appreciated. Thank you for all your comments on my previous photos.

9 commentsThe large version is very nice--the micro-setae show up well on the syrphids abdomen. Yellows are fairly strong and you may want to tweak the saturation back slightly. Other than that--well done......................Jim
