Very nice subject that tells a story.  My only "nit" would be to clone out the lower leaf on the right.

Excellent photo John, the water drops really add to iy and I don't mind that lower leaf at all.

The beautifully lit and coloured flower seems almost defiant in its decline, John !  The varied greens of the leaves are delicious - and a neat, simple composition all round.

John,
I have tried to do a number of flowers past their prime, but none of them looked this good. You have really captured this tulip's beauty.

John, before I read your narrative, on first glance I thought the flower looked like it was dying.frown Yep, it was! Well composed. I agree with Floyd about the separate leaf.
