AM Colors (+alt)

In this case, "AM" stands for both morning and one of my "alma maters," LSU, whose colors are purple and gold. So when the local MetroParks planted these purple tulips and yellow daffodils, I had to shoot them. However, I am posting here for a specific purpose: I have two versions, and I'd like to know which is preferred. I will post them in the order taken. The first is a lower perspective. The second a bit higher and with a bit stronger light. Both single images shot with D600, 18-35 at 18, f22, multiple hh gnds, tripod. Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks, Youngstown.

Hi Scott
I like them both but  if I had to go for one it would be the first> It may sound silly but I think the border on the second is a bit powerful.
Both very nice though.

Scott: Do I have to choose?enlightened Well, if I have to I would pick the second for the play of light and shadow on the scene which appeals to me very much. I also like the sky a bit better in the second version. Geaux tigers! >=))>

I have to go with the second ( not that the first is any problem - far from it ! ) because of the light.  I always like it when you begin to sense a moment of time caught in an image, and the second seems to suggest the breaking of sun through cloud.  Whatever, these are both beautifully composed, the perspective ( again especially in the second ) leading the eye nicely through the tulip patch.

I too chose the second.  Stronger shadow contrast, and depth of field.  Both are terrific!!!.

Second one for me Scott.  The sky, the richer light...I don't think you lose anything by shooting a tad higher.  Nice shots!

Second. Love the sky. Also, the higher perspective emphasizes the entire image, front to back, where, to me, the strong foreground in the other deemphasizes (is this a word?) the background. I attended the University of Washington (purple and gold) so love the tulips and daffodils, too.

Both of these are glorious, Scott! My vote is on the second image, however. That "Mackerel sky" is well detailed, a good addition, mirroring the flow of the tulip/daffodil plantings as well as defining a moment of the unseen weather (windy with an oncoming weather change}.

I think I like the first best also Scott. The perspective of the flowers leading into the frame with the nice S curve and bright colors is excellent. Finished off in a really nicely balanced setting overall. Ths sky in the second version is a bit better. Tough call Scott.

Scott, I choose the first one. I like the visual impact of the flowers in the foreground.  The flowers are spectacular. This image could be a great postcard. Both versions work well.

I like the second, both for the light and the fact that having more sky causes my eye to travel along the gorgeous flowers into the scene in the upper portion of the photo. For some reason that does not happen with the first photo, so the picture, while gorgeous seems more static to me. Hope that makes sense.
