Willet

These were all over the place when I walked the Padre Island National Seashore last month and I managed to get a few flight shots out of it.  I don't know how it happened but I actually had to add canvas to this one to give the bird some room.  I added a sliver to the top and a fair amount to the bottom and right.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 516 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/2500, iso 640, manual exposure.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  See above for added canvas.  Selectively adjusted brightness, contrast and saturation on the bird and used Topaz detail to emphasize the feather structure.  I also brightened the light in the eye quite a bit.  Taken at 9:12 AM on March 13th under somewhat hazy skies.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

Sweet image for sure. I rarely get to see willets so this image is a treat for me.  Comp is good and the willet is nice and sharp.  Adding to the BG certainly gets this composition to perfection.  Well donedevil......................Jim

Absolutely perfect appearance of the colors and feathers and detail.  Beautiful job.  I'm glad this was an image you could easily add canvas to.

This is really excellent!  You did a wonderful job of getting a fast-moving bird in flight with excellent contrast, detail, wing position and exposure.  Nice to have a full frame image like this.  Looks like everything was working for you on this one.

Great achievement having it caught this sharp in flight, from what I remember they are fast flyers ! Nice colors and framing. Love it devil, Hans

Wow, nailed this one Dennis. The light could have been better, but nothing you could do about that. Great flight shot with a very pleasing background. Sharp details and nice eye contact.

Very nice, especiall in the larger size. The white feathers in the wing are wonderful. Good sharpness on this moving target as well.

Very nicely done. The color ,detail and comp are great. I see this bird very frequently in Florida and have so for years. This picture brings out detail I have not seen before.

Very nice Dennis! Exposure looks right on and I like the amount of canvas around the Willet. Congrats!
