An Evening in Spring

Taking a walk on an evening last weekend, I captured this group of liverworts lightened by the last sunlight. Their colors are always impressive for me.

Comments and critique are welcome.

Hi Silvia. I like the diagonal composition of the flowers. The colors are nice but if you want to see the natural blue of these flowers I think that you need to lower the purple and magenta and increase the blue tonalities.

I have seen Hepaticas in every shade of pinks and purples, including some that looked just like this. I like what you took here, but I would have liked a bit more DOF to get all of the one blossom in focus.  Using a tripod as you did, you could have used a slower shutter speed and a smaller aperture.

I like the shallow dof and dof management, Silvia. Your point of focus is right on. Absent stacking, any more dof on the main flower would have made the bg too busy, imo. I like the three flowers, and the way the main flower stands above the other two. I can't speak about the accuracy of the color of the flowers as I am not sufficient familiar with them, but the color looks good overall setting aside any issues re color accuracy.

Silvia: I think this is a very well crafted image. I like the comp, your DOF/POF choice and the lighting on the main subject especially. My only small suggestion would be to make the bright spot above the top flower go away by cropping or cloning. Please consider posting a larger version as it does help with critique to be able to see some of the smaller details a bit better. Over all 2 thumbs up.>=))>

Silvia, I agree with Scott and Bill on this one.  Removing the light spots would remove the distraction.  Otherwise, I like it just as is.

I'll ride with Scott and Bill on this one. Simple flowers in a shallow dof—good stuff!
