Water and Ice

Every year I hike up Lundy Canyon in the Eastern Sierra for fall colors, but there's also a lot of nice water features along the way.  This is from the upper falls area on a rather cold morning.

Excellent image, Rudy. I like the icicles hanging from the log with the complementary "frozen" water coming in from the other side. Nicely composed for an interesting photo. The water is a bit on the blue side, but I like the subtle contrasting warm and cool colors, so everything looks good to me.

I agree with Scott about the composition. The SS speed is really nice in how it makes the water look like a veil over the rocks. Nice image.

Rudy,

A wonderful combination of elements.  It's almost two images, but I think combined makes for a great nature story, which makes the combined elements a strong image as a whole - if that makes sense.

It's been years, but I remember conditions like this on McGee creek; biting cold down at the bottom of these creeks... but great photo opportunities.  You've done beautifully with this one.

This is excellent. I love the perspective. The background looks slightly soft and that is good. It allows my attention to delve into the icicles, then slowly meander back to the falls. Very nice.

Lundy in the Autumn can be a magical place. I like this a lot. The blue in the water could be brought down a little. I love the detail in the ice and wood. Your choice of shutter speed and aperture is perfect. Nicely done, Rudi.

Love your composition with the strong foreground element of the icicles and wood and the waterfalls in the background. The warm tones in the rocks under the falls complement the warm tones in the foreground log perfectly.  Wonderful detail in the ice and rock and excellent texture in the falling water.  The large image is a visual feast.  A beautiful image.

I have hiked up Lundy also and seen the wonderful ice formations. It's a challenge to get the ice and the waterfall at the same time, and you've pulled it off. I like the clarity of the ice and the fuzziness of the falls, and the two together are just great.
