Agave Point

This is from the same July evening as a recent post.  I have re-edited this as the prior version done a few years ago had too much tonal contrast for my taste.  An investment group has been pushing to build a resort and tram to the bottom at this location and has fortunately been unsuccessful so far in receiving Tribal approval.

I can see why they call it agave point. What a spectacular place. You got some great lighting and the gentle light in the canyon showcases that detail so well. The front yellowish ridge gives great perspective against the more magenta bg. I don't particularly like the large agave stalk on the left. I think the composition is stronger without it. In fact, a nice vertical can be made from the left side using the stalk as a foundation and point of focus. The larger version show cases this image much better.

This is outstanding, Doug. Excellent composition, wonderful range of colors with some beautiful lighting. Haven't seen your prior version but processing here looks great.

Doug,

At first I was unsure about the tall plant(s) (Century?) especially the one on the left.  But the attention you've given the foreground really allows for these plants to play a nice role in this canyon landscape. And the detail front to back is excellent.

really like the warm/cool contrasts captured and processed here. If I had one small suggestion it would be to back off the purle-ish color on the far right ridge, just below the sunset.  Of course, that's a matter of personal choice.

This is also just different enough to enjoy that's not your standard, classic view of the canyon.  Nicely seen.

This works for me--the Canyon at its best. The light is wonderful. At first, I was bothered by the agave stalk, but it is growing on me. I agree with Lon's suggestion regarding the purplish cast. This is nicely processed.

I heard about that plan for the confluence.  What a crazy idea, can you imagine how that would effect the area.Like the atmospherics here and your processing looks great.  Not much I would change, love the depth here.

Pretty spot and real nice image from there. Colors look about right to me for red rock country. Very nice work!

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.  I have reduced the blue saturation of the back right north rim in my file.

This is a really well composed view.  If I have my bearings straight, it appears to have been taken from just above the confluence of the Little Colorado looking West.  I really like the lighting over the North rim.  Wonderful light and detail.  As others have stated, the agave on the left is a bit of an eye magnet but in the larger view I accept it's presence.  It grows on you.  When I was younger, I was fortunate to spend four months worth of days in the Grand Canyon both on foot and on the river but have not been back since the advent of digital.

Wow, I hope this stays natural. I hate to see scenic areas turn into locations for people to park there cars so they can stare at a machine. We have those same battles here in the Columbia River Gorge.

Amazing scene Doug, and the lighting back there is wonderful. I really like the subtle, yet pretty, upper right corner. For me the agave break into the distant portions of the scene more than optimal, but I suspect many will disagree.

Love the light and the landscape. Really beautiful, and I can imagine it was great being there. However, I think that tall stalk on the left draws a bit too much attention. I know we're always looking for foreground elements, but this one seems to cut through the remainder of the composition a little bit much (though interestingly after looking at this for five minutes, it bothers me less - oh well :) ).

Let's hope the landscape will remain as is for many more years.
