Common Yellowthroat
by Dennis Plank
I spent the morning at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas. It's changed a lot since I was there two years ago, with the cattails really moving in. While I heard one of the regulars describe it as a slow day, I was satisfied and still left with plenty of reasons to return. This Yellowthroat wasn't singing on territory yet, so it was a real chore to follow it's peregrinations in the cattails. I did manage to get a few clear shots and I liked the composition on this one.
7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600mm, hand held, f/7.1, 1/100, iso 1250 (it stayed overcast/hazy all morning with just the stray sun patch), aperture priority, pattern metering. Processed in LR & PS CC. A slight crop for composition. I desaturated and lowered the exposure on the bg a bit to keep emphasis on the bird and perch.
Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.
Thanks,

5 commentsThis is a nice natural history shot showing the yellowthroat doing its thing. Pose is nice, BG is busy, but the diagonal flow of the cattails does not interfere with the subject. Well done............................Jim
