Weathering the Storm

I caught Isis Temple and Cheops Pyramid as an early morning storm cleared in the Grand Canyon..The play of light and shadow is just wonderful to watch and try to isolate.  I found it odd that many of the rim features have names that are indian origins, while the canyon interior features are Egyptian and mythological origin.  After a quick search it turns out that many of these inspiring landforms were named by Clarence Dutton, a geologist that accompanied Wesley Powell down the Colorado.  Other writers followed suite and continued the tradition of naming these inspirational features.  I did a BW conversion as well, torn between which I prefer.  I tried to use shadows to help frame the shot.

Both are beautiful! I can't really pick a favorite between the two and who needs to anyway? sad  In the color version, I might lightly clone in a bit of texture into the white areas of the clouds (8 or 10% opacity on the brush), but that is getting very picky. It looks excellent as presented. I like these a lot.

Like Harley said, there is no need to choose a favorite, they're both really good.  If I had to choose one, it would be the b/w, because well it's me.sad   The canyon is such an amazing place, wish I could get there more often.

Harry, What a beautiful scene this is. It's an amazing view for sure and especially when you capture it with these conditions. The light and color here is wonderful. I agree with Harley and the others--hard to choose, because both versions work nicely. A little cloning in the hot parts of the clouds would be helpful. The composition is excellent.

Gorgeous Harry; such rich color and light. (I much prefer the color version because of that.) Excellent flow to the composition too.

This is superb, Harry. Both images work well but with color like this, I'm partial to the color version.

Harry,

Hard to argue with Harley, these are indeed both beautiful and can stand alone.  I like the warmth, overall colors and light, and the b&w larger view looks great.  The only suggestion I have with the b&w is perhaps toning down the highlights.

This is a grand view and a finely composed landscape at that.

Another fine GC image, Harry. Both are great. I personally prefer the color, but the B&W would work better for many buyers/situations. devil

Terrific lighting here, Harry.  The pop of the brightly lit ridges and how they zig zag through the frame are great elements.  I love the warmth of the color version.

Color, for sure, for me. I think the warm yellow light adds a lot to this shot. Beautiful comp and nice handling of the light in your processing

You had a productive trip, Harry.  This composition works really well, with the dark framing.  The clouds and thick atmosphere enhance the depth, helping us understand the enormity of this scene.  The warm light it wonderful, which makes the color version stand out for me, even though the B&W works well too, because of the strong composition and contrast.  Nice to have them both.

You caught some sweet morning light on Isis and Cheops, and hence I prefer your color version   That the far north rim is not lit as brightly where the sun hits it helps Isis and Cheops be the show.  Temptation would be to bring down the highlights in the clouds- although they do not appear overexposed, their brightness draw the eye from the temple.

This is such a sight to behold. I really like the color rendition. No nits other than what Harley has already mentioned. Splendid work!
