Misty Pine Forest + final

A picture I made in the pine forest near my home this past week. It was a rainy, misty and foggy morning and I love those conditions for shooting in the pine forest. Thanks for looking and any thoughts.
Have another one I like too but going with this pano shot first.
Canon 5D3, 16-35 F/4 L, ISO 100, F/20, 0.3 sec. Larger version for much better view.

Nice forest image Nick, some nice strong vertical lines with a subtle variety of tones, the fog adds a nice depth. I like how the background  trees are nicely balanced below the branch lines of the foreground.  Might crop or eliminate the one diagonal branch on the right side, maybe not...

I love the vertical layers, and the subdued color. This is moody and mystical. The variations in tone from dark to light are very appealing. The large version is a must-see. Well done, sir!

Sweet! I love the mood, Nick. The shooting conditions created with the fog and mist have created some wonderful atmospherics in this woodland scene. My only suggestion; and this is very minor; would be to crop off those small patches of the forest floor on the right bottom.

Thanks guys! Glad the mood is coming through and that the panoramic format works. It was fun shooting in the pines on this morning.
Ed, Thanks, I planned on doing that and just forgot! sad Nick

You are , in fact, killing it, Nick.  Excellent.  I'm with Steve in cropping of cloning the one diagonal limb on the right side, along with the sliver of forest floor.  Really well seen.

Nice image. I like the foggy feel, classic!

I would want to see the bottom of the image - the tree roots. Kind of feel it's a cropped version, isn't it?

Beautiful and moody forest pano, Nick. I like it a lot. The bits of color in the lower trees add a lot to the image. My only suggestion was already suggested - just remove the bits of ground on the right side. devil

Thanks to all of you for your comments on this. Glad you liked it.
Bo, Thanks! I did shoot this with some ground below the trees and do have one I kind of liked that way (below) but this is what I really wanted and cropped some off to get where I wanted to be with it. Nick

The shot with some ground included. I liked it ok but the cropped version is more what I wanted. When I shot this I was thinking I might want to do a panoramic print 46x18 or 50x20 metal or canvas for over a couch or maybe fireplace...something like that. The file will do a very nice print at that size I'm sure.

Lovely mood; I really enjoy the three levels of trees. I actually prefer the image with the base of the trees included; the reds of the ground are nice.

Love this Nick!  I hate to repeat comments, but gotta go with Harley's comment that you've been killing it with these images.  Fantastic imagery!  The atmosphere/mood is wonderful and the pano crop really cries out for a big print - which I think you're after.

I see where you're going with the crop and I think it works beautifully.  Having seen your original now, I think that works on it's on as well - quite beautifully as well.

As with most all of your posted images, I can't offer any critical comments - only teeny little suggestions.  If it were mine, I might complete the bottom crop by coming up just a tad more to completely remove any reference to the ground. There's a tiny bit on the lower right.  Also, consider cropping in from the right just past the two trees, but not quite all the way to the third, and clone out the remaining horizontal branch.  Again, very, very minor, a tweak.. but the open space on the right has more vertical bright area than the rest of the scene.  Again, we're talking real tiny nitpickin'....

Wonderful work Nick!

Nice image Nick the gap of sky between the close trees and the distant trees, provides a separation that really makes this image work. I like the pano crop

Thanks John, Lon and Steve, I sure appreciate getting all of your thoughts on this. Mostly small things that make the difference when printing something larger and your thoughts make that difference from nice to a really nice print.
Here is the final version with the bit of ground removed, the one branch removed and cropping a little of the right side off. I like it and think it will make a very nice print. I'm going to print the canvas one first as I do that here and see how I like it. I like the looks of mounted canvas (on gator board) and then a frame around it, of course no mats or glass. Getting away from the gallery wraps for awhile because the framed canvas seems to sell better for me and I prefer the look...at least for now. May have a metal print done later as they do look pretty awesome with certain images. Thanks for all the help. Nick

Nick,

Had to come back and say that I think you've nailed it with the final rework.  One thing to point out that is much more prevalent now, is the line of brightness, the high-key line that goes from left to right... is much more defined and accentuated and I think has elevated this even more.

Can't speak to my experience on canvas prints, but I'm guessing this one will look great no matter what medium you print it on.

Nick, your second version works perfectly for me. The inclusion of the ground makes for a sense of steadyness to my eye, while the repetitive pattern of the trunks together with the delicate structures of the twigs keeps me exploring the whole composition. I certainly would enjoy a large print from this image.

I prefer the original, less stylized version of this subject, but both are fine images. I have no idea which would sell better, though.
