My first flight shot of this species. They are as difficult to catch flying as coots. Processed using Lightroom CC (2015) and Photoshop CC (2017) along with Light Craft's LightZone. Comments and critiques welcome.

Canon 1DX Mark II
Canon 200-400 f4 L IS
f6.3
1/2500s
Focal Length 560mm (Teleconverter Engaged)
ISO 800

Very nice flight shot Jerry. Nice details and wings position.

I agree with you about the rarity of seeing Grebes flying.  To be prepared and in position to capture this picture is hard enough, let alone getting such a tight technical photo.  I also love the blue in the water ripples.  This is indeed a rare photo.  Great job.

A Pied-Billed Grebe in flight!!!  This is amazing to have.  And the colors are beautiful.

I concur with others.  I don't know that I've ever seen a Grebe fly.  Certainly difficult to identify if it was flying.  You did a really nice job getting the capture.  I'm sure there are not very many photos of flying grebes.  One thing that I am curious about is what percentage of full frame is this image?

Thanks for the comments, David. This was a fairly large crop. Original was 5472 x 3648. The crop was 1898 x 1410. The Bufflehead image was a similar crop. The Canon 1DX Mark II does well even with these large crops.
