I make a bit of a splash

Lake Geneva, Switzerland
D810     300mm  f2.8  G ED VR2  x  tc 1.4 series 3
f/7.1   ISO 800   1/3200 s    EV  -0.33   WBA     Handheld
Photoshop CS6

I set out to capture Cormorants; plenty on the Lake but they tend to be wary and normally keep their distance. This crop is a relatively small portion of the original frame. I’m concentrating on the splash and chose to avoid large amounts of space ‘up front’. Thanks for viewing
Your crits and nits are most welcome
David

Your high shutter speed definitely captured the splash and made it interesting. Is there more of it on the right that you can incluse in the image? Cutting it off on the right edge  contributes to a feeling of being too tight for me.

A really cool splash, David.  Nice detail in the Cormorant and a great look at the blue eye.

Nice job in capturing the splash and still keeping the eye and head sharp.

Very sharp image.  Nice detail, color, and action.  I believe that adding a little space for the bird to move into on the left would make this even stronger.  However, that is personal preference and I like this as composed.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Prior to posting, I experimented with different crops and proportions in which I compressed the reflection vertically to include a small image of the yellow parts. Richard and Dave raise the contentious issue of additional space fore or aft. For this shot, I think my preference would be for this repost. David.

I think this works as posted David. I actually prefer the original post to the repost. I would have added more room in front rather than behind. The repost crowds the left side too much. Just my opinion! I love the frozen water action you captured in this image. Great detail too!
