The task was to photograph the tentacled snake on exhibit at the Miller Park Zoo.  The challenge was that the aquatic snake was in a small aquarium with low light and tannin had been added to the water which gave the water a strong yellowish cast.  Also the aquarium was in front of a window, which added a bit of light.  As these snakes normally cling to an object while they wait for prey the aquarium had plenty of small twigs and branches.  The snake is about 12 inches long.

At first I tried with just a supplemental light, not near enough light, then external flash, color was way off.  Then used a combination of the small light through the screen top of the aquarium, flash, and changed the WB to tungsten.  Then with the help of Erik, the zoo keeper was able to position one of the snakes for photos.   And as with most zoo photography, there were visitors in the area watching what was going on.

I realized after posting I had forgotten to do a color correction using Canons DPP4.  Makes a lot of difference.

The color corrected version is much better John. What a fascinating creature. New one for me.
