Shot this at St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge during the 4th Annual Natural Florida Pilgrimage to that area. Had a wonderfully foggy morning greet us Sunday and that fog seemed to have these birds grounded - LOL.

Bill,

I like this very much - and I think I would love this even more if treated with b&w,  The only color really is the green grass, but I don't think it's part of the story you've captured.  You purposefully centered the tree and with your title, it is about the birds being perched on this tree  - grounded in the mist.  I think this graphically centered comp and mist is perfect for b&w.

If your vision is color, you might consider cropping out the brighter water on the bottom, leaving the green grass as the foundation.

A number of ways to look at this one - which means you've got a strong image to take it in different directions. Kudos for recognizing the potential here.

Lon

This is excellent. I read Lon's comments, and while I am a big B&W fan, I think this works extremely well in color.  I really like the comp, too, as is with the reflection and the tree centered. Bigger is better viewing this. Great mood.  I like it a lot.

Bill, I thought birds were IFR qualified. If they are, the conditions are below minimums. sad I love the mood and I think the color works very well. The centered tree and the reflection add to the mood. I also like the cool grass and warmer background vegetation.

When I first looked at the thumbnail, I thought it a little odd that you went with the centered comp.  After opening the image and large view, I definitely reconsidered my thoughts.  I think the centered comp works perfectly here.  The "grounded " bird filled snag and misty background make a very compelling story.  I love it.

Bill, a very compelling fog image, love that the birds are all looking to the left...the foreground elements of  water and the grasses  add depth so I would not crop them out. Color is my vote, there are some nice soft tones here; but I do think it would be stronger with tree off center to the right.

A great, minimalist view, Bill.  The lone tree and grackles stand out well against the fog while that fine green strip of land at the bottom adds some very attractive color.

Bill, I'm quite enjoying how you photographed this scene. For me the centered comp works great and I also like the soft tones of color and what it adds to the scene, although I guess b&w would work too. Something about the color that just seems to work very well here. Yes, I'm sure the birds probably don't want to risk flying in that much fog. Cool shot!

Flight dealy it is, Bill. A very unique look at this old tree covered with avian. Birds being birds and none of them wearing hats that I can see, I'd want to be the guy on the top rung of the ladder there...sad

Very cool.

Hi Bill,

This image is so very elegant, and brings about feelings of "what am I here for ?", or "what is my purpose in this life ?". I love how thought provoking this image is, and I really enjoy the color version of this scene, but could also see it going to black and white as Lon has mentioned.

Awesome work, oh super cool title :)
