Taken last week when it wasn't raining.  See alt image with less sharpening. Doesn't the fill flash accentuate the feathers?

I like the pose, colors and composition, but it does look over sharpened to me.  I like the branch perch, don't see these in a tree very often.  Thanks for sharing.

Like the second version best.  A good image either way.

I do think fill tends to bring out the feather structure more, David.  However, I do prefer the processing in the second image.  A vry nice towhee image.  I don't get them to come out around here.

I like both images.  Great perch and background and detail in both.

I also think both images acceptable. I like the comp you chose and the flawless background too. That red eye really pops and the bit of green on the perch adds imo.

A nice shot of this Towhee, David. I really like the great look at that red eye. Nice simple perch and very pleasing background. Nice image!!

Nice work, David. I think the flash may slight exaggerate the detail in the blacks, but it's very slight. I like both photos as posted.

Nice shot.  I'm jealous.  A pair of these nested in our yard last Summer and I was never able to get them in the open enough to get a good shot.

Always nice to get one off the ground with a clean background.  Clean complimentary background with good details in the black.  I bit more of a head turn and better eye contact would put this over the top.  I find these guys easy to oversharpen?
