Fraticelli-Little terns

This couple of little terns (Sternula albifrons) was resting on a tall pole in Po River Delta regional park. These poles delimit the navigable channels in the lagoon.
The italian name Fraticello is something as "little friar"; we don't know the reason for this, possibly it is due to the black and white head.

It is a protected species in Italy. The photo was taken last year in June.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Great to get an image of a protected species.  I do wish they hadn't been so high so that we could see them better.  The colors of the sky and the pole as well as the birds are great.

The large post really illustrates the small size of these terns. Nice detail in the post and terns. The whites are maybe a little hot on the heads of the terns. A very nice image as posted!!

A very nice composition, D&L.  Excellent detail in both the birds and the post.

Thanks for the comments.
We forgot to say that this was taken from a small boat; this is why the POV is a bit low.

Thanks
