Great Egret & Fish

Canon EOS 7D EF400mm f/5.6L USM
1/640 sec;   f/7.1;   ISO 640
Manual;   Evaluative metering
LR5, PS6, Topaz DeNoise on water and separately on grass, with different adjustments; Topaz Detail on bird; cropped to 75% of original to just make the image smaller.

I was sitting on the ground, but there is still an angle because the ground slopes up from the water.  The grass was wet, and I was afraid the bird would fly away if I did all the maneuvering necessary (for me, anyway) to lie down on the ground.

All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Barbara, no need to lie flat on the wet grass to get this interesting image.    The sloping grassy foreground help us focus our attention on the Great Egret as he attempts to swallows the fish.  I agree with Robert, the timing is perfect!

I'll add a third voice, though it is not exactly necessary. Good light, good story! My kind of picture.

The light is really nice here, Barbara. The light hitting the damp grass has a nice effect. Great detail in the Egret and the fish is a huge bonus. Really nice image!!!

Wonderful light and beautiful detail in the bird, fish and grasses.  I think this might work really well with a bit trimmed off the right (maybe a 4x5?).  Wonderful work here.

This is one of your better images Barbara.  Terrific lighting and color rendition.  The pose is perfect.  The Egret really stands out nicely against the background and the warmth of the image makes this a real keeper.
