Alabama Hills Cloud Show

by Harley Goldman

Gallery: LandscapePosted February 6, 2017295 views6 comments
I was in the Alabama Hills last week for a few nights. The cloud gods were friendly one morning.

D810, 14-24mm

p.s. The small version appears way more saturated than what was posted. The large matches what I uploaded. I uploaded separate files for each from the same master file. Heck if I know what is going on.

Gorgeous light and awesome color, Harley. The detail in the cloud is much better in the large version. The composition works nicely, and the detail in the foreground and the Sierra is excellent. Well done!

Harley, This is super cool. Excellent composition and just amazing light and color. The larger version is wonderful and I love the reflected light on the mountains. Fantastic work!

Sweet! Damn, that's some light show. Sorry I missed. The glow on the Sierra is sublime. Great job managing the dynamic range and retaining detail in both the shadows and highlights. This would make a stunning large print.

What an incredible display of light!  I like the v-shape in the cloud structure.  The blue in the clear area of the sky balances out the sky.  The glow on the mountains is incredible!  I also like the scale in this image.

Damn colorful, Mr Harley.  Does this classify as a wave?  Doesn't matter, awesome sunrise.  I'm sure I would have been fast asleep.  Can't wait to witness the upcoming adventures of the Goldman retirement. If the first couple of trips are any indication, we should be in store for some epic images.

Mr. H.,

Same thought as Gary, wonder if this is considered a Sierra Wave? And like Gary, it doesn't matter, still an epic image.  What really pulls this together for me is the blue of the dawn sky separating the drama and color of the clouds, with the warm, softer color of the alpen glow on the Eastern Sierra.

I wasn't there and haven't seen your RAW file, but would just ask if the reds are a little clipped? Mostly in the UL, and a minor nitpick at best.

What a glorious capture!
