Devil's Garden-WC 772

I spent a few days last November camping in Devils Garden Campground, Arches N. P., Utah where I had hoped to try my luck with some night photography. Earlier in the day, I had seen this gnarled pine tree on one of the trails behind the campground that looked as though it belonged in a "devil's garden" and decided to return after dark to try and get a shot of the tree against the dark night sky.

Paula, the details show up very well in the larger view.  You did a fine job of balancing the land and sky brightnesses.  (I'm guessing that you have multiple shots with different exposures to get this balance.)  I like how clearly the Pleiades cluster shows.

We're thinking alike, Paula. I think your is better, though.

The colors in this stand out pretty well.   I've always wanted to try this but we have so many cloud issues here in the Pacific Northwest that I'm frequently discouraged.  Someday though.  It looks like you have the right techs but a lot of images I see where this is done have a darker sky.  Perhaps a smaller aperture?
