Hamming it Up!

One of the oddest animal encounters happened a year after Jenny entered veterinary school.  One of her friends mentioned that she knew someone who wanted to get rid of a Moluccan cockatoo. With famous last words, Jenny uttered we are not getting a cockatoo.  Unfortunately for her, once the bird's eyes saw me, he fell in love with me and climbed down from his cage and sat with me.  Luckily for him, we took him home and he went to see the avian specialist at the vet school.  Cataracts and a badly misaligned beak most likely due to malnourishment were major health problems. At that time his diet consisted of sunflower seeds and peanuts which is not the healthiest of diets for a parrot.  In 3 days, he was switched to a pellet food which was nutritionally balanced and within a year, apples, grapes, bananas, carrots, and an occasional walnut for a snack. became part of his diet.  And this is a very recent photo of him and he's doing OK.  K5 IIs 180 mm f3.5 (1/60 se at f4.5, ISO 400, off camera flash).......................Jim

This is a nice portrait of this Cockatoo, Jim.  The detail in the large version is excellent.  He seems to have a happy expression on his face.  He's lucky that you rescued him from his bad situation!

Hs is so beautiful, and this is a great image of him.  Does he still love you?  I'm sure he does!
