Microcosm + RePost
by Jim Zablotny
With an expected high of 50 degrees today, I went out into the fog to see what I could find. One our cherry trees has not fared well with attacks from hungry deer and a mid-summer drought. Part of this tree died back and lichens and fungi took over. I thought that the black spots were sporangia until they started to move. Lots of mites and I continued to shoot hoping that most of them would stay put. The mites are most likely the winter grain mite ( Penthaleus major) which is active on warm winter days. This is a result of a 15 image PMax stack. Please examine the large version. I had to edit some of the OOF black spots from moving mites.
