Dahlias displayed in garden on Bridge of Flowers in MA.  Taken with Sony A6000, F22, 1/40, ISO 800.

Comments always welcomed.

Patricia, I like what you have done here, but I really believe this belongs in Photo Art.  I hope you are not too upset.

Beautiful Dahlias, Patricia, and I like the painterly effect and the vignette.  Very nicely done!

Thanks for the critiques.  The effect is an in-camera artistic mode contained in the Sony camera.  The only post processing was the vignette.

To respond to your question in the forum, I would tend to call this photo art as it is to some extent a distortion of the real flower.  I think there is a difference between post-processing to bring out detail, change the contrast, etc. and actually altering the flower so the viewer realizes it is not reality.  Whether it is okay to post in the flora gallery, I'll leave to the moderators.  Whatever, this is a beautiful presentation and a pleasure to view.  Great job.

Patricia, I think I see your reasoning: the camera did this rather than you. My reason for moving this is, whether you did it or the camera did it, this is an alteration rather than an enhancement. I have nothing against this as a picture; actually I think it is rather good.

Patricia - this is lovely and certainly belongs in Photo Art (thanks to Phil for moving it over here). I know this image has been discussed on the main forum, but I've waited to comment on it here. This is an image that defines the Photo Art Gallery... and Phil said it best, "this is an alteration rather than an enhancement". Many times folks will post images in this gallery that don't really meet the criteria of the gallery. They take the term "photo art" to mean any image that is outside what they usually do and has become "artsy". This, of course, is a term that is purely subjective. Sometimes I allow the images to stay, sometimes I move them... again purely subjective on my part. The Photo Art Gallery doesn't get near the posts that other galleries receive, so I'm more likely to leave a post here than move it to a more appropriate gallery. But, just to let everyone know my thinking, I don't choose images for the weekly pick if they don't meet the stated parameters of the gallery. Here is the stated guidelines of the Photo Art Gallery;

"The Photo Art and Series photo critique gallery is intended for digitally manipulated or multiple exposure photos that are intended as obvious artistic renditions of nature. It is also intended for a series of nature photos taken in succession"
