Supermkt Special & RP

I picked up another bouquet at one of our local supermarkets and spent some time photographing various parts of it yesterday.  I set up on the chest freezer which is one of two places I can get direct sun this time of year.  I used a sheet of sky-blue construction paper for backdrops (which auto white balance kept trying to make graycheeky).  I need to remember to turn that off for inside photography.

5DIII, EF180 f/3.5L macro, tripod and cable release, 7 shot stack in Zerene Stacker, f/16, 1/15 sec, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering, +1 2/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  I liked the relatively soft petal look, so I did no enhancement of texture or sharpening of the flower.  Cropped to an 11 MP 6x7 before resizing for the web.

Comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.

Well planned and well taken, Dennis. The only nit to pick, and it isn't much, is the little bit of shading about two o'clock. It does no harm whatsoever, but there is no logical reason for it to be there. There, I've split my hair for the day!sad I really do like that you gave thought to leaving the petals soft. That is one of those "auto pilot" things I am guilty of, getting the last bit of sharp out of every edge and structure.

Love your title!  I've done this a few times, as we don't ever have tulips in this area.  Most of the time, I just look around my garden.

The crop appears to be too bottom heavy for me...IMO, you might crop much of the stem out, L and B, and let the bloom "rule the photo".

Nicely done, Dennis. Looks like this was shot outdoors with natural light and bg. The bg looks very much like a natural sky, particularly with the upward shooting perspective. The bg also contrasts well with the flower.

I find myself in agreement with Lucy's comment on the composition.  Here's a different crop.

Very nice, Dennis!  I like the softness of the petals and the blue bg.  I prefer the repost because the flower in larger in the frame.
