Bufflehead

I found a place on Capitol Lake in Olympia, WA where I could scramble down the bank and with the recent cold weather , keep dry.  I settled in for an hour Thursday and some of the local ducks came back in before too long.  The male Buffleheads all stayed well out on the lake, but this female got pretty close.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600mm, hand held, f/8, 1/2500, iso 640 manual exposure.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 12.6 MP before resizing.  Taken at 11:27 AM on January 5th.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

You did well with this one.  You got down as low as you could which isn't easy at Capital Lake.  Very nice lighting in detail.  Yes, the Drakes are really skittish.  They rarely come close to the shore.

Your effort to get the low angle paid off for this very fine image.

Hello, Dennis. I haven't seen many females of this species; nice a subtle bird and great to see such a nice capture of one ! Congrats. Hans
