Resting Grebe

I really liked the late afternoon sun on the water and the serene pose of the Grebe.  It's hard to tell Western from Clark's in non-breeding plumage, but I showed this to a birding expert with the Grebe in full pose and he felt there were characteristics suggestive of a Clark's Grebe.

Thanks for looking.  Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Beautiful golden water from the great light.
Nice pose from the grebe, with the bright eye still visible - and watching you.
Fine work!

Really beautiful color and the water just makes this happen so well.  The Grebe is perfectly placed.

Moody and peaceful. The golden water is very beautiful. I might like a little CW rotation. Nice work!

A superb capture with exceptional lighting, Allen!  The golden reflections, the fine details and the tucked in pose make for a beautiful scene with a very peaceful atmosphere.  That sunlit eye is the cherry on top and really makes it special.  The large version should be required viewing for this one!  devil

The lighting is wonderful, but it's the low angle that really makes this work well.  The blurred background make the subject stand out.  I know it's a lot of extra work, but I wish that more photographers would get back to shooting water birds this way.  So many shots I see are taken from the bank and shoot down on the subject. This photo shows how it should be done in my humble opinion. devil

Love the pose Allen and the golden reflection is great. Also nice low POV. I know it isn 't always possible, but it is nice when you can find a way to get low on water. Maybe it's just me, but it looks like it need a very minor (maybe 2-3%) clockwise rotation. Basing this off the water rings.

Detail, eye, golden water, background all make this photo IMO.  In addition, I really like that subtle light rim over the top of the head.  Congrats.

Beautiful glow and I really like that just part of the bird shows, i.e. can't see the beak.  Makes for a more engaging look than if the entire head could be seen.
