Sony A77II
Sony 70-400G @ 300mm, 12mmXT, CPL for taking the sheen off the leaves
ISO 400, 1/6 @ f16
We have an ornamental pear tree on our back patio that puts out a prolific number of leaves in the fall with varied colors and patterns. When I spotted this one it immediately brought to mind a resting butterfly. I do like this comp and shot but what happened next  . . .(please see image in first comment)

I reoriented the camera to shoot a vertical comp and just as I tripped the shutter the butterfly flew away in a gust of wind! I would like to take credit for being quick enough to capture the "takeoff" but this was pure dumb luck to have the wind blow in that 1/4 second the shutter was open. I almost deleted the shot on the spot but when I enlarged the image I was delighted to see what had happened, proving again that its always better to be lucky than good.indecisionsadenlightened >=))>

Wonderful, Bill.  These definitely need to be seen in the order presented.  I do love serendipity.

What a unique find and great follow up, Bill. The color and butterfly pattern on the pear leaf was amazing, and then to catch it "in flight." Very cool.

Fine work, Bill. I like serendipity too, but I like the first picture best. laugh
