Florida Osprey

My year's favorites wouldn't be complete without at least one image from the 10 days I spent in Florida with Mike Ramy (and a few overlapping with Mark Seaver).  If memory serves me correctly, this was taken the afternoon of the day Mark left, so he didn't get a chance at this one.  An Osprey is doubly appropriate for this one because we spent a lot of time and electrons on them and they were so common along the St. Johns river and its tributaries.  I was particularly fond of the way the perch stuck out from the tree and the other branches followed the lines of the Osprey's body.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 374 mm, hand held from boat, f/6.3, 1/4000, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 14.8 MP 4x5 before resizing.  Taken at 3:56 PM on March 24th.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks,

Dennis, this is a good look at this Osprey showing it's environment well.  Well timed on your part to get a shot where the bird is nicely separated from the background.  I don't believe I saw any Osprey's hanging out this low during my stay.

Dennis, very high on my list for wonderful and beautiful birds of prey. I consider them to be the eagles of the water. Not that eagles don't work the waterways too, but these guys have most water regions staked out and enjoy the bounties available in and around those waterways.

For as congested as the scene is with branches and such, you've obtained an exceptionally clear view and subsequent photo of this gorgeous bird......laugh

Very nice light and detail.  I'd sure be tempted to clone way the two vertical branches directly in front of the osprey's body.  Of course that's always a matter of preference.

Lovely, natural shot, Dennis, in which the fg branches and the oof trees in the distance work well together to set the bird in context.
