Snooty the Hawkfish

My reef tank has some interesting residents and this long snouted hawkfish is no exception. I was trying to photograph a coral and the fish kept sneaking into the view so I fired away. The aquarium is lit with a home made LED lighting system that is biased towards blue and purple.  A flash with a yellow filter was used at full power to balance the spectrum.   Final white balance  was adjusted in Lightroom and finished up with a levels adjustment in CS5. I applied Topaz Detail.   Luminosity masks on lights, darks, and midtones were implemented to further adjust the lighting to reflect what the fish actually looks like in my tank. An S-curve adjustment to the midtones luminosity mask boosted the contrast and improved color saturation. The green opalescence in the eye is a natural feature for this sopecies.  K5 IIs, 180mm f3.5 (1/6 sec at f6.3, ISO 400).  Enjoy.............................Jim

Nicely taken.  Colors look good.  I have found that photographing creatures in an aquarium is more challenging then it might seem.  Well done.  Thanks for sharing.
