Northern Pintail

Getting nice flight images of these beautiful ducks has always been a challenge.  Last week at the Bosque, there was a location with plenty of opportunities to capture a few images.  This was one I liked.

Canon 7D Mark II
500mm f/4
1/1600 @ f/6.3
ISO 400

Cropped for composition

The larger version is a lot better to view for details.

Hello Keith,...  Great tones overall with an excellent clean background. The wings look great and tail to head appear sharp with excellent detail.

Thanks for sharing

One of my favorite ducks. I have only photographed them once. Where at Bosque did you see them?

Excellent. The whites on this species always makes exposure a challenge, at least for me. It seemed there were more pintails this year than usual.

Superb in every way, Keith.  The detail is excellent, and the posture, along with the upward curve of the pin tail, make for a fine flight image.

A typically lovely Bosque bg and a beautiful shot of the Pintail, Keith.  The view of the wing is wonderful.

Impressive detail for a flight photo at 1/1600 at 6.3.  You must have been handing quite steadily to get this level of sharpness.  The background is perfect to set off this level of color and detail.

Outstanding Keith, everything is working in this image. Background color matches the Pintail perfectly and the pose is quite interesting. Your choice of the slight pano crop works very well. Great detail in the duck too. Well done!

This turned out great Keith! I like the decision for a pano crop on this one. Really nice to see you again. Hope your workshop went well.

I would love to have this one in my portfolio. I know what you mean about the difficulty in getting good flight shots of waterfowl, it can get pretty frustrating sometimes. I'm sure my dad would be jealous over this one, he's in love with Pintails, haha.
