Richard's Rose

I got 6 long stemmed roses from my sweetheart at the time some years ago. I put one on my deck table as it began to snow. 15 minutes later I shot this. If you look closely you can discern individual snowflakes on the petals. I used my Canon A590 pocket camera then.

2018 UPDATE: This image was a huge favorite of a friend of mine. He was my biggest fan and supporter. He purchased a 16x20 print, framed it and hung it over his bed, so he could see it when he awoke and went to sleep. Sadly, he passed away from  tumor that was excised many years ago, and evidently not a successful surgery. I have renamed the image to honor him.  I miss my dear friend immensely.

Very cool, Lori.  Well thought out and you chose just the right amount of snow on it to accent it without overpowering the flower.  I notice that the "larger" image isn't larger-did you intend it that way?  Well done.

Thanks so very much, Dennis! It's an oldie but goodie!
I only post one image, unless asked for another. Whatever NPN does in the upload process, is not y intention at all.
Appreciate your support,
Lori

Well thought out approach. I like it very much.

As a moderator, I will speak for myself and most viewers. A larger image within the acceptable parameters NPN sets (1600 pixels/1 MB), while not necessary for posting, is usually necessary for a definitive critique of image quality. Also, the moderators judge the photos for a best of the week pick. The difference quite often, between two equally good photos, is the ability to see the image quality detail in the larger image. A standout picture is much easier to choose based on the large image.

For myself, the value of posting a large image is to learn what others see in an honest critique based on that large image. I have improved significantly over the last ten years of membership by paying attention to feedback from my peers and betters. It is a good system and worth contributing to, In my mind.

Lori: I'll echo Dennis and Phil regarding a larger image but I do like the comp and concept. Even though it would have been cloudy when you took this I would still like to see the snow considerably brighter. I think it would make the rose pop off the BG even more. >=))>

Thank you, gentlemen. With regard to the larger image, I did not intend to it like this. I usually just post my image on the first image upload button. How it is shown is all in the upload process. I have rarely posted on the second button, but have done so when requested to.I'm still not sure what I am doing wrong, as in this case. Aah, technology.....
