Canon EOS 7D EF400mm f/5.6L USM
1/320 sec;   f/7.1;   ISO 640
Manual;   Spot metering
LR5, PS6, Topaz DeNoise, Topaz Detail, a little desaturation and a tiny bit of darkening of the background so the bird's head stands out more; same day, still foggy, but now my shutter speed is up to 1/320! :)

I also have verticals of this, but I like the horizontal much better.  The vertical is too crowded, for one thing, and also I really like the various directions of the groups of grass behind the bird.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

No wonder it is called a Limpkin-it has only one leg.  Sorry, just had to do that.  At first I was distracted by the lower right corner reeds, but on viewing the detail view, they fit right in with the rest of the image. They point at the Limpkin and it looks right back. The back ground is superb, especially the direction of its flow. Love the focus, too.

Just perfect, Barbara.  I also have been chasing this one for some time with marginal success.  devil

I agree, I see this bird on a regular basis, but combining the dark subject and it's natural choice of habitats, it is hard to get this good of image.  Well done.  I also usually prefer a landscape to a vertical.

Lovely composition.  Nice head turn and pose.  Agree this is very nice as a horizontal.

I too, like this one very much as presented. The composition is easy and very pleasing to look at. And I like that this image gives us a nice feel for its environment while giving a beautifully clean view of the Limpkin.

Excellent Work Barbara sad
