Zen & Repost

Same leaf as the last few posts, but I isolated it from all the reed reflections in this case.  It ended up requiring a fair crop to do so because to get the nice silvery water I had to have the leaf far enough away to get a shallow angle-I probably should have dug out the 300 mm.  I liked this one for the two simple but contrasting elements of the leaf and the rain drop ripple.

5DIII, EF180 f/3.5L macro, tripod and ballhead, f/16, 1/160, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, + 1 1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 8.8 MP before resizing for the web.  Taken at 10:25 AM on November 25th under cloudy skies.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks,

I like it. The image is pared down to it's simplest. Well done!laugh

IMHO this image needs to be seen large for the best impact!  Like this one best of the 4.  Well taken.  Thanks for sharing the series.

Hi Dennis, for me the best of the series - 'simple' but extremely effective!

Dennis: Whether by design or serendipity the placement of the leaf and ripple in the frame is perfect. The ripple gives it an understated dynamism that really appeals to me. I also like the monochrome look of this and the water tension on the edges of the leaf. While I don't think it would necessarily be an improvement I'd also like to see a version of this with the leaf colors more saturated. As is this is a superbly crafted image.>=))>

Thanks for the comments.  Here's a version with the leaf brightened and saturation increased a bit.

Dennis: While it's subtle I do think I prefer the repost 51-49% over the original. Thanks for working it up. >=))>

Simple and effective, Dennis. The subtle ripple adds a lot to the image. As with all the other in this series, I like the look of the leaf edge.

Dennis, I love this image, more than the other two versions. The delicate light seems rising from the deep water and creates many different middle tones of light in the whole image. I like also the very simple composition: only a circle and a point.
