Snowflakes
by Steve Gettle
These images were created using a microscope I built for the purpose. I used fiber optic light pipes for the lighting so there would be no heat which would of course melt the flakes. The snowflakes were collected on a piece of black velvet. The prettiest ones were then transferred to a slide and brought over to the setup to be photographed. The whole process was done outside in the cold to allow time to work with the flakes.

Larry Lynch posted some amazing snowflake images awhile ago, and I'm delighted to see nmore now.
