Ingrid, there are lots of nice elements to this image.  The low angle, eye contact, light and clean background are all wonderful.

Just curious, was it possible to compose lower and include any reflection?  Not saying it would be an improvement by any means, and I know that sometimes isn't possible... just wondering if you had the opportunity to try it.

Hi Max

Thanks for your comment!

From the low angle, the full reflection wasn't possible. I had the option of photographing from the roof of the vehicle, where I could then see the reflection but lost the eye contact. So the choice wasn't hard to make :-)

Thanks again!

Ingrid.

The "look" makes this image. Those eyes are mesmerizing.  Just curious, was this a man made water hole?

Thanks for the nice comments!
Yes, Jerry, this is a man made waterhole - there are a few in Ol Pejeta, helping the animals in times of drought, which unfortunately are common.
Grt, Ingrid.

Great body language n hypnotic stare!
BTW, did you shoot any verticals?

Hi Jagdeep,
Thanks!
No, I didn't shoot any verticals as the reflection was cut off anyway and the horizon with vegetation would have been more distracting in my opinion.

Hi Ingrid,

Great shot! Love the intensity. I have read all the other comments and while I think it would have been great if it would have been possible to position the lion higher and get the whole reflection, this version is strong in its own right. Very nicely done (as always).

Cheers...
