It's been said that a buffalo bull looks at you like you owe him money. Well, let me tell you, when I spent a few minutes one winter's morning in June all alone with this dude on the Mphongolo road in northern Kruger, I was fumbling for my wallet and my vehicle just before he walked away :)

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 200mm
f5.0 | 1/400 SS | ISO-1400

Morkel,

the light is fantastic as it is also the pose. I may thing in adding a bit of contrast which would benefit in my opinion the overall character of the image.

Loving that light on the right, Morkel.  His expression and the detritus in the horns exude quite the personality. enlightened

Great back lighting, pose and exposure.  A little tight on the top, but this works well as presented.

I agree that the lighting makes him looks particularly menacing!

Photography is about light and this image is primarily about light...and the effect in can have in interpreting a scene.  I like how this cape buffalo bull looms high in the frame and seems to be daring you to so much as move. Processing choices seem right on.  Well done!

Ah, the light is gorgeous. I love the typical buffalo gaze and the extra touch of the vegetation he picked up somewhere on the way cool - a bit more space at the top would have been even better for me, but maybe there was something there that would have distracted our attention. Great shot!
Grt, Ingrid.

Yeah, I hope you threw him a few bills.  It may help the next photographer.  The magical light makes this a winner.  Excellent work.

Thanks folks, glad you enjoyed this one.
It's tight at the top as I had to rotate it a bit :(
