Moods of November 2

One of my favorite places in November is the Wisconsin River Bottoms and that is where I made this picture. There is something there that I have always enjoyed and I know part of it is the quiet and mysterious feel it has. Sometimes almost a little spooky I think. I made this picture last week for the second image in my Moods of November series for this year. It was early morning light with some fog that hadn't burned off yet. It does need to be viewed large I'm sure.

When I look at your image, I can immediately understand why this is one of your favorite places. The panorama format is consistent with your composition to my eye. There is a lot to explore, and the repetitive pattern of the trunks makes for an interesting structure. I also appreciate the natural colors, your processing is spot on in my opinion.

Really nice, Nick. The panoramic view of an intimate forest scene works well. This is one of those images that needs to click for you emotionally or it's just dreary. Fortunately for me, it does. I can smell the decomposing mushrooms and feel the soft damp leaves under my feet. You need to put some time walking through these damp woods to connect here IMO. And not feel that it''s so disgusting I just want to get back into the warm car. My only suggestion would be to experiment with greater saturation in the yellows and oranges to give this a warmer feeling. Great job.

Even though this is November and there is a chill to the air this is still an inviting image, Nick. The pano format works exceptionally well with the vertical lines of the tree trunks and the fog is the icing on the cake for me. I love these subtle kinds of images because they give me so much to explore and savor. Great job on this.

Excellent!  Love the mood and sense of mystery. Very minor, but I might clone the light grass/reed coming up from the bottom on the left side. I like this a lot.

Beautiful  Nick.  There's a wonderful sense of mystery in this while being inviting at the same time.  Wonderful eye to see this and capture it so nicely.

The layering of light caused by the light fog does wonders for separating this out and creating mood.  The warmth is an interesting twist.  These types of images often have a cool tone.  I like this just fine.

Certainly fits in with well your moods of November theme, Nick. I like the soft light and remnants of color. Personally, I love hiking in November in the woods around here, as the forest opens up and there is so much more to see. Also easier to go off trail. I can  relate to the mood created by this image.

Nick,

A very somber and almost mysterious image. I think the lighting and exposure level is just right to really enhance the mood here.

Always have enjoyed your Moods of November work.

This is definitely a somber reminder that winter is on the way, Nick.  You managed to really put together a very nice representation of November in a spot that, to me, would be hard to do.  I really like the mood, nicely done.

The panorama to emphasize the verticals, subtle colour and mist make for a wonderful image.

Very elegant scene here, Nick. It has all the autumn look and feel that we can sense without knowing the season it was photographed. Very nice image overall.....laugh

Another scene where the dark is really working well. I like the somber mood; it matches the fallen leaves and fog. Great choice to go with the pano crop.

Nick, this is very moody and very effective. The softness and fog touches add a bit of mystery.
I , too, can small the moss, decomposing wood, and mushrooms. Just enough definition in the trees and leaves.
Perfect pano image!

So, or course in my musically addled brain, I'm thinking of Gordon Lightfoot's Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the "winds of November came early".  You've done a great job of capturing the mood between the falling of the leaves and the falling of the snow.  I'd say that quiet mystery is an excellent description for the quietness and touch of sadness in the woods at this time of year.  The brightness of the background and the subtle mist makes this a scene begging me to go exploring, slowly and quietly.

Your use of the panoramic format is so very effective, Nick, really placing the viewer in the forest with so many lines and details for the eye to explore. The fog, the backlight, the light on the leaves on the forest floor all add such a nice mood to this as well.  Definitely needs to be viewed large.

Really nice study of these trees in the fog.  I like the mood.  I can feel the crunchy leaves under my feet.
