Pride of Etosha

I recently spent 2 weeks in Etosha National Park, Namibia.

We spent quite some time with a pride of lions that dominate a specific fountain seeping out onto the vast pans.

I love trying to convey context and sense of place in my wildlife photos.

Techs:

Nikon D3s

Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 200mm

f5.6  |  1/320 SS  |  ISO-640

The male looks great and I agree this provides a fine sense of place.  I sort of wish the oof lions in the background were either absent, more distant or closer and better posed as my eye is pulled as I try to decide what they are up to.

Great sense of place you managed to capture here. You are really good at conveying context. I have made a decision to provide more context in my own images. It is something that I have been working on lately. Really nice image.

I really like this.  It is very different from most wildlife photos.  You're right, it shows that sense of place that means so much.  It pulls you right into the photo; almost makes you feel a bit nervous, like you are really there, right next to that lion, and that would make me VERY nervous.
It is not over-saturated, like so many photos are these days.  It feels very natural.
 Awesome, I really like it!
