Greater Yellowlegs

On David and my trip to Ridgefield last Friday.  This was on our afternoon circuit of the refuge and we had some really nice afternoon light at the beginning of hte session with these two.  By the time it ended, they were in shadow, though the light was still pretty good.  I have better images of an individual from the session, but I liked the double pose in this frame, particularly the legs.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, f/8, 1/640, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, +1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 15.2 MP 4x5 before resizing.  I removed a few bright reeds and a stick.  Taken November 4th at 4:20 PM.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Reminds me of Mary Poppins and the song: "Step in Time." The legs action certainly makes this. Nice timing.

Good eye to catch these birds in this side by side position.  Nice color and details.  Thanks for sharing.

Nice catch. I like the "lock step" stride. The detail and light are good. The techs are reasonable, but a little more dof would have maybe gotten the farthest bird that last bit of focus on the head. I do understand that planning for that is next to impossible.enlightened

Nicely mirrored, Dennis. A bit surprising to see a shorebird, even a Yellowlegs, this late that far north. Good use of the opportunity.

The synchronous steps makes this one for me.  The lighting looks good as does the detail.  It was nice to meet you and David at the NPPNW meeting on Saturday.

Wonderful Picture, and I agree with your liking the leg positions.  It would be ideal to see the rear birds full bill, but that probably make the leg positions a lot less pleasurable.

This looks really good.  And I'm sure you're not surprised that I have a nearly identical image.  I'll have to process it and send it to you.  The lighting in your picture is very nice and while I agree in principle with Phil about the depth of field, I think it still looks pretty good when viewed on the screen.  Bird behavior doesn't always allow for instantaneous depth of field adjustment.  I tried ahead of time with some of the pintail's that we saw but even at F-14, I don't think it was any better than what you got at F8.
