Red-legged Cormorant

Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 x 1.4TC, handheld from boat
f22, 1/2000, ISO10000

The boat was bouncing all over the place in random directions; the camera's AF in servo mode couldn't keep up. So I cranked up the ISO, stopped down to f22 and set the shutter speed as fast as possible.

Cropped to vertical. Selective sharpening to birds.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Those eyes are something! Very nice bird, great job considering the situation you had.

Just a beautiful species of cormorant with their intensely colored yellow and red beaks and red legs!  Great composition and your decision to crop vertically.  Really sharp focus was next to impossible with the turbulent ocean swells you were given.  Wonderful job!

Amazingly good image quality for the conditions, Jim.  The little blue patterns around the eyes come through nicely.  Well done.

Interesting solution to the "boat problem" (which can be a real pain).  It looks to have paid off.  I'm very impressed with how this looks at such a high ISO.
