Quarry

A marble quarry just outside of Orosei on the East Coast of central Sardinia.   I had gone by this quarry a day before I was so amazed by what I had seen that the following day I wanted to drive by again and stop and take photographs.  In college, I majored in geology, so the opportunity to get up close to a working quarry has always been fascinating for me.  This one was essentially right in my lap as the road was meters away from it.  The sides of the road were lined with marble blocks the size of automobiles.  What amazes me about this photograph is the size of the vehicles next to the giant marble slabs.  Look closely!

This is a cool semi-abstract. I would be tempted to clone out the power pole in the front, as I find it to be an eye grabber. I like the image.

David: definitely an eye opener in terms of the size of the trucks when viewed large. I'd be tempted to see this in b/w more as a pure abstract and with the power pole removed. Richard

Marvelous set of stages, with a small drama going on each one. The tractors and trucks look like toys and give us a good sense of scale. I can see why you wanted to return to this place! Very cool shot.
