This guy really enjoyed squawking.  After awhile I was able to time when he would start and stop his squawking sessions and get a short series of shots each time.  This was one of the better ones.  D800e, 150-600 @ 600, F8, 1/1600, ISO 800.  Did I get the blacks right, or is it too dark?  Too tight in the frame?  Thanks for looking.

Good job on the detail in the blacks. I find photographing ravens very difficult. Well done.

This doesn't feel too tight for me, Jim, though you could go with a 4x5 vertical and add a touch of canvas to the top.  I think either one works, depending on your application for the image.  The sky seems a bit dark to my eye.  Blacks are a tough call.  Some people like to be able to see detail in all the shadows.  I tend to go for somewhat darker shadows, but I do think this could go just a tiny bit brighter without looking artificially gray instead of black.  A really nice pose and perch.

I think the blacks are great.  The details are all there.  I think it's fine in the frame as is and it would be fine with a little more space added.

Excellent, Jim. Nice detail in the black and one of those classic poses.

Nice calling pose.  Not to tight for me, but you could easily add canvas on top and bottom if you feel you need to.  More detail in the blacks if you can.
