Lama (Monk) in Red

I took this photo in the Ladakh state of India. This state is primarily Buddhist in religious orientation and is populated with many monasteries. While visiting the Alchi monastery near Uletopko, I noticed this lama or monk who had just adjusted his cowl to protect himself from the bright mid-afternoon sun. I liked the strong color of his cowl against the muted background and his position between the monastery and a large stupa. Taken with an Olympus E-M1 and 12-40 lens at 1/100, f/16 and ISO 200. A nicely jarring juxtaposition of elements, with the brightly dressed monk forefront and the monasteries in the back. I like this a lot.

Love the rich red color and the position of the monk. Am undecided about whether or not to see his face....think I'd like to, but there is a nice sense of mystery in not seeing it. I also like the softness of the fabric juxtaposed with the rocks and harsh environment.

Although I would like to see a profile of the face, I still like to see the hand and I like the placement of the monk in the image behind what appears to be a Buddhist monastery.   The color contrast really stands out nicely and makes this image.  There is a lot going on but I really like what I see.

Perfect positon of the monk, and not being able to see his face adds an element of mystery.
Congrats on a fine WP!
