Tufted Grebe

Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4, handheld
f11, 1/800, ISO8000

Photographed at Ardanilia Wetland, near the coast south of Lima. Fairly common in Peru, Chile and Bolivia. Coastal Peru is a desert, ad this time of the year there is very heavy fog, the only source of moisture. Hence, the high ISO and the noise.

75% of full frame. Selective sharpening and slight brightening of the bird; noise reduction to background.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful bird - great colours on the head and the red eye is always pretty with the grebes.
Kinda messy BG but you had no control over that!

Noise is starting to show in the larger version, Jim, but not badly for that outrageous iso.  Nice pose and the water drops on the back are a bonus.

Nice pose here Jim, if you had shot this at F5.6 which probably would have been sufficient depth of field, you could have taken this at a reasonable iso - 2000 - with the same shutter speed and had a much higher quality image with out so much noise. devil
