Indian Beach Surfer

Indian Beach, north of Ecola State Park, in Northern Oregon is a favorite spot for local surfers to hang out and catch a few waves as this guy in the distance is doing.    I have mixed feelings about this image and wonder if the light is too harsh and is there enough going on in the scene to keep it from being boring.

Paula, I like the mostly graphic nature of this view.  The gulls with their reflections in the shiny wet sand make a fine foreground, the surfer and the waves fill the middle ground well and the sea stacks are a fine skyline.  While I like this as presented, I could also see trying a couple of things; 1) burn the 4 foreground gulls to make them total silhouettes and do some selective burning/dodging to bring out the other reflections in the wet sand.  2) dodge the 4 gulls to let a bit more detail show, that might create a visual change of pace through the view.  I also think that the cyan tone of the 720 px version looks better than the brownish tone of the larger version.

Love the B&W treatment here. Must see  large image for the surfer.
This image might be even stronger  if the gulls had a bit of texture visible.
If you haven't downloaded the new FREE Version of the now-Google-owned Nik filter set, I'd urge you to do so. I happily paid 100$ for it when it was not free.
The Viveza filter will add reclaim texture and structure for these types of things, and the other filters are also awesome.
The B&W conversion filter would add interesting possibilities to this as well.
