Argiope Trifasciata

Or Banded Garden Argiope, if that helps at all.  I went out to the local prairie preserve a bit early for our regular Tuesday workday last week in hopes of finding dragonflies overnighting on plants.  No luck there, but there were a ton of spiders with dew on their webs and themselves, so I settled for them.

I was trying to get some dead vegetation our from between the camera and this spider that was at the center of it's web when I accidentally moved the web and she was nice enough to move to the top of her web giving me this nice sky bg.

5DIII, 180 mm f/3.5 L macro, tripod with live view and 2 sec delay, f/16, 1/400, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, +1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to an arbitrary ratio (pretty close to 3x4) of 12 MP before resizing for the web.  Taken September 20th at 8:09 AM.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks,

Excellent and unusual perspective, Dennis. The sky makes an excellent bg, and I especially like the capture of the fine dew drops and web.

Yes, an unusual perspective, but quite nice against the blue sky. I like the chains of droplets and the dew drops on the spider. Good light on the abdomen, not so easy with the blue sky in the background. I recognized it as an Argiope because here in Holland we have the Argiope bruennichi which looks very similar, only yellow. I usually find them deeper in the vegetation, so this is refreshing.

Hey, it's a spider, dewed.  enlightened  A fine look, Dennis, especially with all the clear dew drops and the clean sky background.

Nice to see Spiders rain in the macro gallery. The drops stand out against the blue sky, and some fine detail in the large version.
