Moraine Morning

Sony A77
Minolta 24-85 @ 26mm
ISO 200, f8

An icon for sure from the rock pile at Moraine Lake in Banff NP. I hate the intervening tree but so it goes. I actually have a number of comps I prefer and hope to post later but this was also my first experiment with HDR in Lightroom so specific comments with regard to the success or lack thereof of the merge would be greatly appreciated. All comments welcome.>=))>

The lighting looks good to me, Bill, given the strong light/contrast. You've retained some detail in the shadows, and the snow covered peaks have excellent detail. The entrie image has excellent clarity and detail. Amazing scenery and a beautiful image.

Beautiful image of a beautiful place, Bill. I have yet to use the HDR function in Lightroom, but this looks pretty good to me.  Doesn't appear to have the telltale HDR fantasy look.  I have been using PSCC merge to HDR, but stop the process before the tone mapping.  Essentially you get a 32bit image with 20 stops of exposure and lots of adjustment in shadow and highlights. (Sean Bagshaw's extending dynamic range tutorials).  It works quite well when needed.

This looks real nice to me, Bill. You handled the HDR very well, here. The detail in the walls looks great.

I would not have known the HDR if you had not revealed it. I like this larger scale look at the peaks, a bit different.
I might go a tad warmer?

From the thumb, I was thinking that you'd been to Canada, Bill.  This is a fine view, especially with the snow on the mountains.  I haven't tried HDR in Lightroom, preferring to merge carefully through TK's masks in PS.  Basically, this looks very good, although with "hand" processing, I think you'd could retain more detail in the dark shadows.

Very pretty scene. Nice comp. although perhaps a bit tight up top. Your processing looks natural.
