Common checkered Skipper

I found this checkered skipper yesterday evening perched on some dahlias.I forgot to mention a few other funny things that happened during the shot.  The sun was going down so it was very dark, windy and cold.  The dogs kept jumping around and almost knocked the skipper off the flower.  Tom the cat also decided to help and nearly knocked the flowers out of position.  The skipper decided to stay put and I was able to get quite a few shots with different backgrounds.  I especially like the BG in this shot which is very different  than what you normally get with most of my macro shots. K5 !!s 180 mm f3.5 (1/5 sec at f16, ISO 500) Bumped up exposure in LR and cropped for comp...............................Jim

Very nice, Jim. I like the vibrant colors and the detail in the skipper is quite good. Amazing that the skipper stayed put through all the commotion and that you could shoot this at 1/5. I'll have to go out at sunset to look for skippers as they move quite fast during the day.

Excellent, Jim.  Sounds like a real circus, but you pulled it off very well.  The bg is exquisite, and I really like the overall composition.

Yes, Jim, the soft oof colors in the background are a great addition.  The sharpness in both the flower and the bf are excellent.  Given the adventures, are you sure this wasn't a skipper statue? sad

Beautiful detail in the skipper, and unusual background.  It seems quite different to have the least brightly colored object in the picture the subject, but your detail and POV take one's eye right to the skipper even with all the other colors.

Hey Jim,
I must of missed this post earlier but sure glad a came across it today.
Simply outstanding in all respects and way to go hanging in there to get this shot, a lesser man would have given up under the circumstances.
Well done . . .   devil
