Breakfast on the beach

St. Pete Beach is a pretty good place to photograph gulls and other types of sea birds when the beach isn't crowded.  Morning is the best time with the sun in the right place and not too many people to scare the birds off. The birds are very tolerant unless you approach too quickly.

This gull was pulling, what I believe is a beached shark, apart. There was a pretty strong wind and storm the night before and a lot of things had washed up overnight.

Hi Jerry,

Anything can provide a meal for a hungry ring-billed gull.  A good natural history shot that shows how graphic nature can be sometimes. Well done...........................Jim

Superb detail in the gull and neat behavior, Jerry.  I also like the dof and the fairly creamy look of the oof waves that you achieved.

Excellent work.

A really cool image with great behavior with the gull pulling out the intestine here Jerry.  Detail and exposure look great.  To my eye the image might need some cw rotation and if you had been able to get lower and get the background farther away by doing so I think it would have made the behavior and subjects stand out even better. devil
